Championnat du Monde Laser Standard 2012 / Audi Laser World
Voilà la dernière régate de sélection achevée. Ce championnat du monde a été pour moi une grande épreuve, avec des hauts et des bas dans une flotte au niveau spectaculaire.
Il a fallu gérer les conditions météos, souvent un vent de 5-10 noeuds mais également des jours à 20 nds avec beaucoup de variations et des température hivernales de zero degré le matin !.
Le championnat à été extrêmement long puisque 14 manches ont été courues en 7 jours sans interruption.
J’ai manqué la gold fleet de quelques points. J’ai réussi à me remotiver à fond pour défendre ma position dans le top de la silver fleet et finir 7ème et premier suisse.
Je sors satisfait de ce Grand Championnat car malgré quelques erreurs j'ai confirmé le niveau que j'avais montré en Australie en décembre. Je vois la progression effectuée ces deux dernières années et connais le potentiel encore à exploiter.
J'aimerai remercier toutes les personnes qui m'ont encouragé pendant le championnat, vous m'avez été d'une grande aide!
Merci aussi à toute l'équipe autour de moi qui s’est donnée à 200%! Bravo à eux.

apologize for the late post, yesterday was a day lots of stress and emotions.
Two great races to end the AUDI LAser Worlds Championships 2012.
Great sailing conditions, 15-17 knt increasing to 20-22 knt along the day.
Guillaume on great shape, on race 13 he manage to start on first line, keep the pace of the top (even not sailing his favorite conditions) finishing 15th.
On the race 14, the very last of the Championship, bad stard and some tactical mistakes...35th at the first upwind mark !
The, THE COMEBACK...with great inspiration and pride, he passed 24th on the second upwind, 16th at the last reach, and finished 15th.
Amazing race to finish the Worlds in great fashion !!
We're about to catch the flight back to GVA, I'll be at the SNG tomorrow morning, hope to see you all.

"Day 6 of racing at the Audi Laser World.
Same unstable conditions than yesterday, slightly more windy, around 10-13 knt, shifty/gusty as usual.
Today we had a positive day !
On race 11, after a good stard but some wrong tactics, we turned the first mark around 20th.
He came back the whole regatta, on great display of concentration and good tactics, and ended 7th !!
On race 12, pretty much the same, turning around 20th, this time he went up and down all race long.
I'm not sure as he arrived quite tighten with other sailors, I guess it was something on the 18-22th.
We're gonna give our best, till the last breath..!!!

"Today first day of finals on silver fleet.
Less wind than forecasted, 10-12 SE-S, shifty and gusty.
Great start on race 9, good upwind to turn the mark 4th and keep along the downind.
On the second upwind, unfortunately, bad tactical choice and lose to 35th.
On race 10th Guillaume didn't started very well, turn the upwind mark on 25th place and manage to comeback a few up to 19th.
Still hanging there, in top ten silver.

"Final day of qualifiers, light/shifty complicated wind + rainy and cold weather.
We couldn't manage to raise the performance, ending up 45-30, and missing the gold fleet by a few points.
Therefore, bitter taste...on the down side a bit disappointed, on the good one pretty excited as we have great sailors in silver, such as ESP Javier Hernandez, SWE Johan Wifgross, USA Rob Crane, URU Alejandro Foglia, not to mention the 2 countrymen from Switzerland by close by.
The weather promises a lot of wind, it will an exciting finals!! Great challenge!!!
Besides, most of the unqualified nations are in silver, therefore, we expect a serious challenge!!
Keep crossing finger for us..,never, never, never giving up..!

"Today 2 races of light/oscillating wind, increasing all day.
The scores: 21th on race 5, 26th on race 6.
Not a great day for Guillaume considering the previous days, 2 (very) bad starts and some bad markturns conditioned the results...c'est la vie..
On the good side, the speed still top, and tactically wise quite ok.
We hope to do better tomorrow.

"Great day of sailing on Day 2..!!
Light shifty conditions, 10-12 knt on race one, decreasing to 8-5 knt.
Guillaume sailed at his best, with a 12th on race 3 and an awesome 4th place on race 4..!!
Really good starts, solid tactics, and great speed. We're all happy.
We had dinner wiht the Spanish friends Javier "El Bull" Hernandez,"El Flaquito" the coach, and ARG Yago LAnge.
Again in blue fleet on day 3, keep crossing fingers for us!!

"Day one at Boltenhagen :
Very complicated wind/weather wise. Long day in the water, not much of a windy one, 10-8knt decreasing to 6-5 knt along the day.
Guillaume performed a great start on race one, stayed in the leading group, then a massive shift to the right left him almost last!
Far from being disappointed, he managed to comeback along the race up to 23rd overall, not bad!
On race two, not a great start, but awesome tactics on the fisrt beat to turn 6th the windward mark.
Kept on that place till the second upwind, when coming to the mark he crashed with SWE sailor Rasmus Mygren and had to do a 720 penalty turn............
Ended up 19th, still a solid score considering the complicate weather conditions.
Crossing fingers for tomorrow!!
This is the most level regatta i've ever been in my life...

"Very good training today, light winds.
We measured the boat, prepare the new sail, tuned up the last details of the material and went sailing for a short session.
Guillaume sailed the first part of the practice race on very lights winds, which was useful to get used to the race area and Race committee.
He looked in good shape, turned the mark on top and the retired for another mini training session and final tune-up of the sail.
After, back home, and later the Opening Ceremony (indoors, because of the rain).
We joined table with the ARG, URU, ESA and GUA team, very friendly and cheerful.
the team spirit is at the best, we're hoping to have a great day of sailing tomorrow...!!

Juste le temps pour tout le matériel (bateaux, coach boat, etc..) de traverser l'europe de Hyères à Hambourg afin de s'acclimater et se préparer aux températures polaires dans la baie de Boltenhagen...

Le Championnat du Monde 2012 va se dérouler à Boltenhagen (GER) près de Hambourg en mer Baltique, du 4 mai au 10 mai.
170 inscrits de 60 pays
Peu d'autres séries peuvent aligner autant de nations sur un CM !
Tous les meilleurs navigateurs mondiaux de la catégorie seront présents, ceux qui sont déjà qualifiés viennent pour ce grand rendez-vous avant les JO et ceux qui ne le sont pas encore, pour gagner leur place !
Guillaume a déjà gagné une place pour la nation au Championnat du Monde ISAF à Perth en décembre. Il doit maintenant se sélectionner personnellement.
Ce sera la troisième et dernière possibilité de sélection pour Londres en Laser Standard en tant qu'athlète pour les navigateurs suisses .
Il faudra pour cela classer le pavillon suisse dans les douzes premières nations (15 pour les jeunes) parmis les 60 présentes.
Ce championnat est également la régate de sélection pour 25% des pays qui n'ont pas pu se qualifier à Perth en décembre, afin d'obtenir leur place de nation pour les Jeux olympiques de Londres
